Welcome to Adventures with Anne Part 3 Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert

April 03, 2023

Fun Fact #1:

This is where it all started: there was a need, a vision, created by teachers for the community and made into reality . Did you know that CDMoD’s first location was in a dentist’s office? Two teachers realized the need for a kids’ museum and did a pilot project in a dentist office to see how it was received by the community. The response was enormous and led to the fundraising for and building of the current location.

Fun Fact #2:

Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert has been around for over three decades.

Three decades of rich history and dedication to valley families with the goal of inspiring creativity and encouraging families to interact together. Check out this awesome timeline https://cdmod.org/about-us/history/

Fun Fact #3:

Did you know that the “eyes” mural on the front of the building is made up of individual tiles, many of which have photographs on them of donors, members and community leaders? They plan to launch this unique fundraising opportunity again in the Spring.

Fun Fact #4:

The Museum is funded by earned revenue (admissions, memberships and programs, grants and donations).

Fun Fact #5:

CDMoD is comprised of three separate buildings on over 6 acres of land.

What is happening now?

The “reIMAGINATION project” is a multi-phase renovation and expansion to include all three buildings and an exterior plan. Phase One, which they are raising funds for now, will allow them to reopen the Main Gallery with over 40 new exhibits.

The reIMAGINATION will include exhibits like a 14 foot tall net climb, a rock climbing wall, the Hedge Theater and Puppet Theater, a Garden Taco Stand, and a dedicated “calm” space upstairs for those on with sensory sensitivities or in need of a quiet space.

With the community’s support and fundraising efforts, they hope to open in time for Holiday Break in December of this year.

Fun Fact #6:

Did you know that RMCC President and CEO, Katie Stice worked at CDMoD for eight years and is now Co-Chair of the Board of Directors?
