Formed in the Coachella Valley in 1987, Variety – the Children’s Charity of the Desert is dedicated to promoting the health, mobility, independence, and social inclusion of special needs and disadvantaged children throughout the Coachella Valley. By providing life-enriching assistance to Coachella Valley children, Variety helps children experience all the joys of childhood while growing to become confident, independent, and free to access all that the world offers. Recently the organization has expanded its services by establishing an early childhood development resource center to help parents in the Coachella Valley identify and recognize early childhood development concerns and provide them with the appropriate resources to help overcome challenges and set their children on a path to success.
The Women of Wonder Award Luncheon was borne out of Variety’s desire to recognize and celebrate women who have made a difference in the lives of Coachella Valley children. Heidi Maldoon, Executive Director of Variety – the Children’s Charity, stated, “We are delighted to recognize this year’s Honorees who are inspirational women making our community a better place. Many nominations were submitted for the 2nd Annual Woman of Wonder recognition opportunity, and we are excited to honor five exceptional Honorees for recognition at the April 14th luncheon“. Honorees include Cindy Burreson, Jean Carrus, Karen Cornett, Linda Rider, and Kendra Smith. The Award Plaques will feature original artwork by art and music students in Variety’s Coachellart Program.
KESQ News Channel 3 Patrick Evans will emcee the 2nd Annual Women of Wonder Luncheon at Agua Caliente Rancho Mirage. Guests will enjoy complimentary valet, complimentary champagne upon arrival, a silent auction, three-course lunch, and a program that celebrates the collective work of the 5 Honorees.
