Teens take on the supernatural in Sunnylands’ new Films in the Gardens movie series

Sunnylands Center & Gardens reopens for its 14th season on Sept. 11

 

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA – With Halloween just around the corner, Sunnylands Center & Gardens is reviving its popular outdoor movie series with a trio of films featuring teens who are confronted by the supernatural.

Films in the Gardens resumes Friday, Sept. 13, two days after Sunnylands reopens from its summer hiatus to launch its 14th season.

The Friday night movies are:

  • Sept. 13 at 7:30 pm — Labyrinth (1986) — Sixteen-year-old Sarah must solve a labyrinth to rescue her baby brother when he is taken by the Goblin King (IMDb). Rated: PG. Run time: 1 hour 41 minutes.
  • Sept. 20 at 7:30 pm — Monster House (2006) — Three teens discover that their neighbor’s house is really a living, breathing, scary monster (IMDb). Rated: PG. Run time: 1 hour 31 minutes.
  • Sept. 27 at 7:30 pm — ParaNorman (2012) — A misunderstood boy takes on ghosts, zombies, and grown-ups to save his town from a centuries-old curse (IMDb). Rated: PG. Run time: 1 hour 32 minutes.

 

Films in the Gardens is presented in partnership with the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

Sunnylands Center & Gardens is located at 37977 Bob Hope Drive in Rancho Mirage.

 

Admission is free, with gates opening at 6 p.m. Reservations are not required. Carpooling is strongly encouraged. (Please note, parking at the gate or along Bob Hope Drive will not be permitted.)

 

No food or seating provided. Filmgoers are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets, and small picnics. Large coolers, alcohol, smoking, and pets are not permitted.

 

Sunnylands’ 14th season starts Sept. 11. Guests are welcome to stroll the gardens, relax at the café, or see the film, A Place Called Sunnylands, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday.  Admission and parking are free. Wellness activities, such as yoga, tai chi, and bird walks, begin in November.

 

Tickets to tour the historic Sunnylands estate in September are on sale at www.sunnylands.org/tours. The exhibition, Variations to a Theme: William Haines at Sunnylands, will be on display for a second season.
