Today, Palm Springs International Piano Competition (PSIPC) announced its 2024-25 season programming. Formerly The Virginia Waring International Piano Competition, PSPIC will present a robust season of concerts and events that showcase the artistic riches of Palm Springs alongside an international who’s who of young pianists, at the start of their careers, in celebration of the life and legacy of one of the Coachella Valley’s most revered benefactors, Peggy Cravens.
“This is a huge moment for the Coachella Valley,” said Robert Koenig, Artistic Director of Palm Springs International Piano Competition. “The strong foundation built by Peggy Cravens, whose unwavering support and dedication to the arts and education gives PSIPC the strong foundation to confidently expand our reach into the Valley and outward to the world as an important resource for young pianists at the start of their careers.”
PSIPC’s 2024-25 Season is one of exciting musical travel as audience members are invited to embark on an inspirational voyage to discover the next generation of superstars. The season sets sail on January 27, 2025 at The Club at Morningside, with PSIPC’s Annual Benefit, Virtuoso Voyage. This event promises to be an evening of glitz, glamour, and exciting music-making with pianist Nathaniel Zhang, winner of the Junior Division of the 2019 PSIPC.
The highly anticipated 2025 Palm Springs International Piano Competition (Junior Division) brings audiences to their final destination. From April 11-21, the eyes of the world will be on the Coachella Valley when 25 young pianists, aged 13-17, compete for more than $30,000 in prizes. The first three elimination rounds will be held at Temple Isaiah and the final round, featuring the remaining four competitors as soloists with the PSIPC Festival Orchestra, takes place at the prestigious McCallum Theater on April 21, 2025.
Familiar ports of call will anchor PSIPC’s 2024-25 season. February 27, 2025 at St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church sees the welcome return of PSIPC & Friends with an expanded twist. This season, in addition to highlighting the remarkably talented musicians who serve as PSIPC board members, several high-profile guests will also be on the ticket, including the Latsos Piano Duo, soprano Michelle Fiore, and cellist John Walz. On March 20, 2025 PSIPC reprises one of its most unique experiences of the season, The Return of David Maiocco as Liberace. Held at the former home of the musical icon, audience members are transported back in time through interactive performance of highly acclaimed Liberace tribute artist, David Maiocco.
