Indio, CA – The Coachella Valley Rescue Mission is proud to announce a new date for the groundbreaking ceremony for its upcoming Women’s and Children’s Shelter expansion, a pivotal milestone in its commitment to serving vulnerable populations in the Coachella Valley. The ceremony will now take place on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at 9:00 AM at the site of the new shelter,  located at 47470 Van Buren St. in Indio.

The $2.5 million Women’s and Children’s Shelter expansion is an initiative born out of compassion and a desire to provide a safe haven for women and children facing homelessness and adversity. This expansion will add an additional 60 beds to the current shelter, as well as a kitchen, laundry facilities, common areas, and playground. It will not only offer shelter but also comprehensive support services aimed at empowering women and aiding children in overcoming the challenges they face.

“We are honored to embark on this journey towards creating a space where women and children can find refuge, support, and hope,” said Darla Burkett, Executive Director of CVRM. “This shelter represents our commitment to addressing the unique needs of women and children in our community, providing them with the resources they need to rebuild their lives.”

The groundbreaking ceremony will be attended by prominent community members, local officials, donors, volunteers, and supporters of CVRM. It will mark the beginning of construction on a facility that will serve as a beacon of hope for countless individuals in need.

“We are deeply grateful to all those who have supported us in this endeavor,” added Burkett. “Their generosity and dedication have made this vision a reality, and together, we will create a brighter future for women and children in our community.”

The Women’s and Children’s Shelter is scheduled to open its doors in 2025, ushering in a new era of compassion and support for those facing homelessness and hardship.

Founded in 1971, the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission provides food, clothing, and safe shelter to anyone in need.  Additionally, CVRM helps people end their cycle of homelessness with extensive counseling, job training and job placement services.  To learn more about the Rescue Mission or to donate, visit CVRM.org
