Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert – “Color Our Courtyard”

February 07, 2024

TIME IS RUNNING OUT TO ORDER PERSONALIZED “COLOR THE COURTYARD CRAYONS” AS CHILDREN’S DISCOVERY MUSEUM OF THE DESERT PREPARES TO REOPEN

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA – February 5, 2024 – The Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert (CDMoD) is moving towards the much-anticipated reopening date of March 25, 2024, following an extended closure due to the global pandemic. As the community eagerly awaits the return of this beloved institution, the CDMoD Board of Directors is thrilled to invite patrons to participate in a unique opportunity to support the museum’s future endeavors.

During the closure, the CDMoD undertook a comprehensive program aimed at securing the future of the organization. This included a visionary “Re-Imagination” of the museum’s offerings and a five-phase capital campaign. Thanks to over two years of dedicated fundraising and a strategic partnership with First Bank, Phase One has successfully reached its $3 million budget, paving the way for the museum’s grand reopening.

As the museum counts down to its reopening, the public is invited to seize the last opportunity to contribute to the fundraising efforts by participating in the “Color Our Courtyard” initiative. This unique opportunity allows patrons to “buy” a crayon surrounding the Museum’s Main Lawn, offering prominent donor recognition at the $15,000 level of support.

The Main Lawn, visible from the main lobby and both buildings, provides maximum exposure, hosting special events and daily activities enjoyed by families, including blocks, jump ropes, hula hoops, sports, and games.

In March, the public will have the opportunity to explore Phase One in The Main Gallery (Building One). This renewed space, designed for 0 to 8 year-olds, will feature whimsical, creative, and exciting exhibits under the themes of “Imagine,” “Express,” “Move,” “Experiment,” “Explore,” and “Dream.” Hands On! Studios, the original designers of the museum’s exhibits, will create nearly 40 new displays.

“Crayons will be vinyl wrapped with a double-sided label, approximately 9″ wide by 88″ tall, featuring the Business/Family Name or Logo of the donor. This label will be prominently displayed for four years with the option to renew before the end of the term,” explained Burreson. The deadline to be included for all Grand Reopening Activities is February 16, 2024.

The limited quantity of 30 crayons is nearly half committed, with conversations ongoing with foundations and cities for potential additional commitments. This presents a great opportunity for Tribute messaging, allowing donors to dedicate their support “in honor of….”

All “Color Our Courtyard” donors committed by February 16th will not only be prominently featured surrounding the Main Lawn but will also be highlighted in the museum’s monthly newsletter, social media, and other media opportunities that may arise.
