Meet Jared and Shelby, the Team Lead and Operations Manager for the Dineen Shanstrom Group, a real estate team operating under Coldwell Banker Realty. Jared and Shelby grew up in Spokane, Washington, where they met in high school band class. After graduation, they both attended Eastern Washington University, where they received Bachelor of Arts degrees in Business Administration & Marketing. Jared also obtained a minor in international business.
During college is when their passion for travel was ignited. From a young age, Shelby had always been inspired to follow in her mother’s footsteps and study abroad in Spain. Jared, not one to be left behind on an adventure, joined her for their semester at the University of Granada during their sophomore year, where they studied Spanish history, economics, and the Spanish language. It was during this time that they fell in love with exploring the sights, smells, tastes, and histories of different cultures. During their semester abroad, they not only got to know the major Spanish cities but also the small neighboring towns and beaches of Andalucía. On weekends and during their Spring Break, they took full advantage of Europe’s budget airlines, and visited several European cities, as well as few in Morocco. At the close of their studies, they decided they weren’t ready to head back stateside and instead took a month to backpack around Europe.
Upon their return, they dove back into both their careers and their studies during their last years of schooling. Shelby worked her way up the management path at Pier 1 Imports, while Jared worked his way up the Hotel Management track with Marriott. In their spare time, they dreamt of their next adventure. Unbeknownst to Shelby, Jared had a surprise for her while they were attending a study abroad advocacy event outside New York City. After popping the question in Central Park, the dynamic duo began planning their wedding and dreaming of a honeymoon destination. The first decision to be made was Shelby’s last name, as the last of the Shanstrom line, she was hesitant to leave that part of herself behind. In keeping with the couples’ compromising nature, they decided that they would each take each other’s family name, and hence the Dineen Shanstrom family was born. Once the names were decided, the next was the honeymoon. The couple couldn’t agree on a single location. Shelby wanted to visit India, Jared Southeast Asia, and both wanted to go back to Granada. In true Dineen Shanstrom fashion, the couple compromised and decided to see all three. They took a leave of absence from their jobs, packed their bags, and headed East. In their travels, they completed a 500-mile trek across Northern Spain known as El Camino De Santiago, spent a month in Granada, and made a few quick stopovers in Europe before making their way to India. After touring 18 cities in India, they landed in Thailand, where they visited Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos. In all, their trip covered 240 days, and 38,000 miles. Upon their return, they made their way to Seattle to continue their careers in hospitality and retail management.
In 2019, Shelby had the opportunity to take over her father’s property management company in Rancho Mirage. Jared made the transfer within Marriott to work as the Catering Sales Executive at The Westin Mission Hills, where he put his international business education and Spanish language skills to work, selling large-scale multicultural weddings and Quinceañeras. During the Covid-19 lockdowns, Jared found himself, like many others around the world, needing to reinvent himself. With Shelby working in Property Management, given that Shelby was working in property management, it made perfect sense for Jared to join her in the real estate industry, specifically on the sales side. After obtaining his license, it was apparent that Jared was a natural in the industry. Jared’s experience in the hospitality industry made him a true professional in the real estate world. In his first year as a real estate professional, he made a strong impact by achieving top ten status in his office, setting a high standard for his future performance. Knowing that he couldn’t achieve success alone, he enlisted Shelby’s help. After receiving her real estate license, the two formed the Dineen Shanstrom Group, with the two of them working together to build a successful real estate business.
While they continue to work in the property management industry, their focus now is residential property sales. They know that the sale of one’s home is one of the biggest decisions people make in their lives. They take pride in their knowledge of the market and their experience in hospitality and property management, and they use their professional education to properly market a property to assure that their clients achieve the best results.
They are working to grow their real estate team with new members, starting with welcoming their daughter, Lenyx, in February 2023. They are excited to raise her in Rancho Mirage’s welcoming community and look forward to introducing her to residents at one of their open houses. While it may be some time before Lenyx can join the family business, the couple will work hard for their clients and continue to grow their team with driven individuals like themselves.
Jared and Shelby have taken the experience they gained from their extensive travels and hospitality and retail management careers to create a successful real estate business. They value their clients and use their expertise to make the home-selling process as seamless and stress-free as possible.
