We visited Visions Organic Hair Studio and spoke to Rebecca Alcorn.
Rebecca is a Midwest girl at heart born raised in Cincinnati Ohio with big dreams for her future self.
When we asked Rebecca about her why, this is what she shared:
When I was 10 years old my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. That was when I realized how important the beauty industry was. My mother lost all her beautiful blonde hair during treatment & wanted to feel ‘normal’, so we went to get her the best wig money could buy. After putting on that special wig my mom felt normal. She was happy and overjoyed with peace of mind. Now no one would know she was battling cancer. After watching this transformation that’s when I knew exactly what I would do with my life. Be a day maker/hairstylist.
After high school, I immediately attended the best cosmetology school, Aveda. Upon graduation, I left for sunny California to make my mark in Hollywood as a professional makeup artist trained at M.U.D. in Burbank. This is where my career launched, and I was taken under the wing of some of the leading stylists in Los Angeles. After realizing LaLa land (Los Angeles) was not for me, I took myself to Cathedral City where I found a brand-new Aveda salon to call home. This is where my personal journey started.
I always struggled with my weight and ballooned to over 300 pounds. It’s a hard life standing on your feet all day. I knew something had to change. Again, I put my Midwest determination to work and lost 150 pounds. After this success, I knew I could do more. I opened Visions Organic Hair Studio. Little did I know the world would shut down and my original opening day ceremony would be canceled. March 13th, 2020, a day I will never forget!
It was time again to gear up and fight. We were given the go-ahead to go outside and work. With this, were went back to work again. I had a tent, air conditioning and my personal mojo. We had a line of cars waiting to get haircuts from 6AM-8AM every day. We were so lucky the community supported us. We made it on the front of the newspaper. News outlets all over the world interviewed me about my tenacity to keep moving forward legally in this new world.
Rebecca’s goals moving forward are to grow the organic color, so our clients know the value of less chemicals more value.
