Palm Desert, Calif., (October 24, 2024) – A $35,000 Impact Grant from the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation will help add an accessible van to the Angel View fleet. The specially-equipped vehicle will transport adults living in Angel View residential homes to their therapeutic day program, community events and medical appointments.
“For people with disabilities to reach their maximum potential, it’s essential that they get the medical care they need and participate in normal life activities,” said Cindy Cliburn, Director of Program Services at Angel View.
In a typical year, Angel View provides about 80,000 client trips for its approximate 96 residential clients who live in 16 homes in the Coachella Valley. The nonprofit operates 18 transit buses and vans that include wheelchair lifts, extra power for oxygen and other specialized equipment. These vital features allow Angel View to transport its clients safely at any time, day and night, seven days a week. Residents are escorted by trained staff to medical and dental appointments as well as on outings that enhance their quality of life, including to parks, shopping, parades, movies, concerts, special events, family visits and more.
Since the 1980s, Angel View has operated group homes in the Coachella Valley with 24-hour personal care for children and adults with profound disabilities. Clients’ diagnoses include autism, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, epilepsy, intellectual disabilities, musculoskeletal diseases, neuromuscular diseases, orthopedic disorders, seizure disorders, spastic quadriplegia, spina bifida and traumatic head injuries. Approximately three-fourths of its clients require the use of wheelchairs for ambulation. Many are also medically fragile and require nursing care.

The Berger Foundation presents Impact Grants through a partnership with News Channel 3. Representatives from both entities look for local 501(c)3 nonprofits to recognize for their outstanding work to improve people’s lives and help those in need.
